Expert Witness for Renal Litigation

Dr. Varun Chawla, MD, MPH is a Harvard-trained, board-certified nephrologist and active clinical expert witness specializing in complex kidney disease litigation.

With more than 14 years of full-time clinical practice, he serves as Medical Director of a hemodialysis unit and maintains a high-volume practice at Washington Hospital and St. Rose Hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is also Director of Research and has served as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials. His academic background includes an MBBS from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, an MPH in Epidemiology and International Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, Internal Medicine residency at Mount Auburn Hospital (Harvard Medical School), and Nephrology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Chawla is recognized for his ability to diagnose and manage intricate nephrology conditions and for translating complex medical concepts into clear, practical, evidence-based explanations—skills that translate directly into authoritative, accessible testimony. He is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology, a frequent speaker and educator, and a recipient of multiple honors including America’s Most Honored Doctors and consecutive Top Doctor recognitions in San Francisco.
